They weren’t pretty goals, but they were enough to give the Cochrane Cobras boys soccer team a 2-0 victory over the Bert Church Chargers in Cochrane May 10.

The George McDougall Mustangs and Bow Valley Bobcats soccer clubs fought windy conditions and an inability to put the ball in the net to end their May 10 matchup in a scoreless tie at Monklands Park in Airdrie.

The Chestermere Lakers and Bow Valley Bobcats played to a 2-2 draw in their first game of the season, May 3. Kris Reimer scored both goals for the Lakers in a back-and-forth affair.

The 2011 season was a transition year for Gareth Barley. After playing lacrosse for 25 years, Barley stepped behind the bench for his first season as head coach.

After seven years behind the bench, Dana Boothby has stepped down as head coach of the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s (HJHL) Cochrane Generals.

Northern Raiders Head Coach Steve Kemp called the team’s 13-point performance in a 36-13 loss to the Calgary Broncos, April 27, “a monkey off our back.” The Raiders had been held scoreless in their three previous games.

Three consecutive losses isn’t the way the Northern Raiders midget football team wanted to start the 2012 season. Although the team has yet to record a point, they’re staying positive thanks to the leadership of longtime head coach Steve Kemp.
