ALS Ice Bucket Challenge at the Rocky View Lodge

Residents of the Rocky View Lodge in Crossfield got their chance to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Aug. 25 but with a twist; firefighters from the Crossfield Fire Department were on the receiving end of the chilly challenge.

Second annual Chestermere-Langdon Oilmen's Poker Run

About 250 participants brought their motorcycles to participate in the second annual Chestermere-Langdon Oilmen's Association's Poker Run on Aug. 23. The ride began in Langdon and made stops in Crossfield, Cremona and Bragg Creek before finishing in Chestermere for a dinner and concert. The event raised about $20,000 for STARS Air Ambulance.

Old-time harvest with the Ag. Society

Airdrie & District Agricultural Society members used some old-fashioned harvesting methods on Aug. 25 at the Airdrie Ag Park, located three kilometres west of Airdrie. The traditional harvest was done in preparation for the Society's Art of Harvest on Sept. 27. The event will see volunteers simulate an old-fashioned harvest and free lunch will be offered to the first 300 participants.

Vintage display in Irricana

The Pioneer Acres Museum in Irricana attracted thousands of people between Aug. 8 and 10 for the 45th annual Show and Reunion. All of the museum’s equipment, including tractors and steam engines, were up and running, along with the draft horses. The event included demonstrations, craft exhibits, a John Deere tractor display and daily pancake breakfasts.

Senior Pro Rodeo in Crossfield

The Canadian Senior Pro Rodeo Association rodeo event was held at Irvine Tack and Trailer in Crossfield on August 9. The event, which featured cowboys and cowgirls from the ages of 39 to 84, included barrel racing and roping events.

Pond discovery at Glenbow Ranch

About a dozen children and parents gathered at the Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park on Aug. 9 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., to discover the various critters that live in the ponds at the park and about how all the elements of life within the water depend on each other.
