Extensive damage cause by fire at Rangeland RV in Balzac

A fire at Rangeland RV in Balzac on Oct. 16 caused major damage to the dealership’s main showroom and service building. Rocky View Fire Services said the fire was one of the biggest the department has seen so far this year and required crews respond from a number of area fire departments. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Rocky View Fire Services representatives said it doesn’t appear to be suspicious. There were no injuries to employees or to the firefighters and a building engineer will be called in to assess the extent of the damage to both buildings.

Big family fun at the Blue Grass Pumpkin Fest

The 11th annual Blue Grass Nursery, Sod and Garden Centre Pumpkin Fest on Oct. 11 had the biggest turnout ever according to organizers. The event included a petting zoo, kids games, pumpkin carving, food trucks and the grand finale pumpkin smash where a 1,210-pound pumpkin was raised 100 feet in the air and then dropped on a car below. Final numbers of people who attend and the amount raised for the Alberta Children's Hospital were not available by press time.

Crossfield Fun Run

Sixty-five runners took part in the Crossfield Fun Run, a five-kilometre run in Crossfield, on Sept. 27. The event raised $7,400 for the Crossfield Fire Department's Christmas Food Hamper Project.

Crossfield Elementary School runs for Terry Fox

Crossfield Elementary School students took part in a Terry Fox Run on Sept. 24 at the school. A final fundraising total was still be tabulated as of press time, but the school expected to raise more than $2,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Springbank Airport invited the public in with open house

Springbank Airport held an open house for the public on Sept. 20. The event showcased a variety of aircraft on display for public viewing and guests were able go inside some of the aircraft and check them out for themselves. The event also included a visit from Rocky View Fire Services who shared with guests the importance of fire safety and how many of the tools on the truck are used in emergencies.

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge at the Rocky View Lodge

Residents of the Rocky View Lodge in Crossfield got their chance to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Aug. 25 but with a twist; firefighters from the Crossfield Fire Department were on the receiving end of the chilly challenge.

Second annual Chestermere-Langdon Oilmen's Poker Run

About 250 participants brought their motorcycles to participate in the second annual Chestermere-Langdon Oilmen's Association's Poker Run on Aug. 23. The ride began in Langdon and made stops in Crossfield, Cremona and Bragg Creek before finishing in Chestermere for a dinner and concert. The event raised about $20,000 for STARS Air Ambulance.
