Fatal motor vehicle collision closes Highway 8

Police Notebook:

At 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 2, Cochrane RCMP along with fire and EMS units responded to a multi vehicle collision on Highway 8 near Range Road 34, west of Calgary.

An eastbound pickup truck crossed the centre line into the path of a westbound semi-tractor unit and collided head-on with the semi. The driver of the semi attempted to avoid the collision by pulling onto the shoulder of the road.

The driver of the pickup truck, Chase Kenneth Alan Hudye, a 19-year-old from Calgary, was thrown during the collision and struck by a second westbound vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured in the collision.

Highway 8 was closed for three hours while the RCMP conducted its investigation.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor, said police.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

The collision is still under investigation.

Injury collision

At around 7:30 p.m. on July 31, Cochrane RCMP were called to the scene of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 66 about five kilometres west of the McLean Creek Trail.

The vehicle struck a free-ranging cow on the highway and then left the road, striking a tree.

Three male occupants of the vehicle, all from Calgary, were injured. Fire and EMS attended the scene.

STARS Air Ambulance transported one of the men to hospital and the other two were transported by ground ambulance. All three were treated and released later that evening.

According to police, speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision.

Hit and run

Chestermere RCMP are investigating a complaint of a hit-and-run motor-vehicle collision.

Sometime between 9 p.m. on July 27 and 8:15 a.m. on July 28, an unknown vehicle struck a parked black Ford F-150 at the south end of West Chestermere Drive, causing severe damage to the driver’s side door.

The driver did not remain on the scene.
