Cochrane foundation to help local artists
A local arts and culture group is helping artists get their faces and work out into in the community.
The Arts and Culture Foundation in Cochrane is calling for artists to be featured on its recently revamped website as artist of the month.
“If there is an artist out there who would like to be featured for a month they can apply and submit their work,” said Janny Hutchinson, president of the Arts and Culture Foundation in Cochrane.
“I think we’ve had one artist apply so far. We’re looking to have artists come forward.”
Depending on how many people apply, artists’ work will be featured on the foundation’s website, she said.
Hutchinson said it is important for artists to gain exposure.
“A lot of artists, they’re in their studio working quietly and nobody might know they’re there,” she said.
“Having them featured for a whole month that means they don’t have to pay to have their own website and manage it.”
She said the foundation, whose main objective is to foster an arts community and enhance and promote the awareness in the arts, is interested in featuring a wide variety of artists from across the province.
“The only thing they need is a membership,” Hutchinson said, noting it costs $25 for an annual membership with the foundation.
She said there are also other benefits to becoming a member.
“We have an arts festival, Alberta Arts Festival Days, in September,” Hutchinson said.
The foundation also hosts an art show at the Cochrane Ranch House later in year.
