Community to celebrate Langdon Days

From July 20 to 22, the hamlet of Langdon will come together for their annual community fundraising event.

Proceeds from Langdon Days helps the Langdon Community Association maintain and upgrade the existing park and facilities and instigate new initiatives.

“Through the variety of events that are planned for this three-day event, community spirit is awoken in our small community which helps to create a sense of belonging,” said Coordinator Chrissy Craig. “New things this year is a bigger variety of children’s activities, and we have also added more activities on Friday night, such as vendor’s village and the Froster Truck.”

Langdon Days will feature a parade, pancake breakfast, slo-pitch and horseshoe tournaments, children and youth activities, a car show and beer gardens with live entertainment.

The event kicks off on Friday when the Mac’s Froster Truck arrives at 4 p.m. The vendor’s village will open at 5 p.m. and run until 9 p.m. The slo-pitch tournament starts at 6 p.m. at the baseball diamond, with the beer gardens opening at 6 p.m. as well. The live entertainment on Friday night is High Stepping Daddy, starting at 9 p.m.

Saturday will start with the pancake breakfast at 9 a.m., sponsored by Langdon Dental and the local scouts. The vendors village will also open at 9 a.m., and the parade will begin at 10 a.m.

At noon, the children’s festival begins. A $10 fee gets kids in to all of the activities. There will also be 4-H pony rides for $2 per ride. The YELL (Youth Encouraging Lasting Leadership) group will also be on hand with different youth activities such as the bungee run, gladiator joust, sumo suits, racing coolers and air brush tattoos.

The carnival activities also begin at noon. Obstacle courses, bouncy houses, the sports centre, carnival games, and an indoor toddler area will all run until 5 p.m. Family wagon rides will also take place from 1 to 4 p.m.

From 1 to 1:50 p.m. there will be a Cotton Candy musical act, with potato sack races at 2:30 p.m.

The beer gardens will be open from noon to 2 a.m. on Saturday. The evening entertainment will be Higher Ground. At dusk there will be fireworks sponsored by EASTLINK.

The Show and Shine will wrap up the weekend on Sunday, running from noon until 3 p.m. The beer gardens will also be open from noon until 4 p.m.
