Resident concerned about missing funds

Re: Concerns raised over funds Irricana withheld from Aqua 7 Commission, May 29

Dear Editor,

I am concerned that the CAO brushes this off as a cash flow problem, and the only solution our council can come up with is to raise taxes, residential and nonresidential. This is not what the struggling town needs.

I cannot believe that grant funds and funds that are collected for special reasons, such as the town’s water fees, are put in the general accounts to be used to run the Town office. I do not think this is proper management of funds. The residents of Irricana pay taxes comparable to other towns I have checked.

We pay higher than average water prices, and we pay for sewage, garbage collection and recycling. I cannot understand why this administration cannot run the town on the monies collected. I believe that it is the CAO’s job to make sure that the town’s bills are paid and that council is made aware of any short falls. It does not appear that this is happening, which is ultimately council’s responsibility.

Beverley Argent, Irricana
