Irricana's high costs hurting economic development
Re: “We taxpayers are not just ATMs,” LTE Jan. 17.
Dear Editor,
I agree totally with Mr. Henry Niznik regarding the Town of Irricana and its council. The council is fast making Irricana a town that is too expensive for the residents to live in. It does not matter how hard you try to conserve water, the bills are outrageous. I live alone and find it hard to cope on a pension, imagine what a family of four or five has to pay for water. I see no reason that the Town of Irricana is not supporting the Town of Beiseker in this fight against the high price of water. Irricana as well could turn off the tap and use our own wells for town water.
When it comes to raising the taxes, the council should instead be looking at cutting expenses. I believe the council should look at its own expense accounts and check what the provincial government allows employees for mileage and see if the rates are what the councillors charges for expenses is in line. We are not going to attract any kind of business or new residents with the kind of attitude this council has taken.
I will definitely be at the next Town council meeting.
Beverley Argent, Irricana
